About Liz and her sports massage training qualifications:

Liz Vaughan qualified in Sports Massage at Cardiff University in 2007 and gained her PGCE teaching qualification in 2008.

Since qualification, Liz has used her skills in many settings:

  • Two seasons as a recovery therapist with Cardiff Blues
  • Three seasons with Swansea F.C.
  • Working on ultramarathon events
  • A variety of private clients practicing across a wide spectrum of sporting events.

Liz has worked with Merthyr College from 2008 to 2015. Teaching Swedish and Sports massage, and Anatomy and Physiology with excellent success rates.

 VTCT L3 Diploma in Sports Massage Therapy (5 weekends)

The qualification comprises of five units:

  1. Anatomy and physiology for sports massage
  2. Principals of health and fitness
  3. Understand the principals of soft tissue dysfunction
  4. Professional practice in sports massage
  5. Sports massage treatments

An additional unit is now a pre-requisite for this course

  1. Infection Prevention (COVID-19) for complementary therapies and sports massage

Tuition for all units is included in the cost.

**Please note, you must have this qualification if you wish to go on and study the L4 qualification in sports massage

Sports massage therapy can be a physically demanding occupation and candidates should have an appropriate level of physical fitness to embark on the course.

Assessment

In order to pass the course you must achieve the following:

 

  • A 70% pass rate in an Anatomy and Physiology exam (multiple choice)
  • 50 hours of sports massage
  • Three observations: one in a clinical setting, one in an event setting and one in a non clinical setting
  • Six assignments
  • One case study.
  • A 70% pass rate in an infection prevention exam (multiple choice)

There will be thorough guidance for all of the assessment criteria.

Format

Format under normal conditions is as follows;

The tuition will take place over five weekends

Tuition will include some theory but will be heavily weighted toward practical techniques. Sports clients will be invited in from the local community for you to practice on under supervision. Your exam and first observation will take place within the five weekends. In addition you will be expected to attend a sporting event at some time afterward to complete your final observation.

Format under current pandemic conditions is as follows;

The tuition will take place on a single student or pair of students basis and sessions will be booked in to suit  individual start dates. Much of the theory will now take place via zoom meetings or in the form of videos. All of the practical sessions will take place on site following COVID protocol. You will be working on a fellow student during practice sessions.

You will have three observations on members of the general sporting public, all within a clinical setting. (event settings are not being used at this time). You will sit two exams under strict exam conditions and in compliance with COVID protocol.

Practical sessions will take place in a purpose built clinical environment

The cost of the  L3 Diploma in Sports Massage Therapy course is £975.00 plus £120.00 for additional Infection Prevention unit

 VTCT L4 Certificate in Sports Massage Therapy(six weekends)

The qualification comprises of three units:

  1. Conducting subjective and objective assessment
  2. Provide sports massage techniques to prevent and manage injury
  3. Treatment modalities to support soft tissue repair

Tuition for all units is included in the cost.

**Please note, you must have the Level 3 qualification prior to starting this course

  • Five observations covering a range of assessment methods, new techniques on injured & non injured clients

Tuition will include some theory but will be heavily weighted toward practical techniques. Sports clients will be invited in from the local community for you to practice on under supervision.

The cost of the  L4 Certificate in Sports Massage Therapy course is £1,200

(There is a discount of £125 for all candidates who did their Level 3 with LV Sports Massage).

The level 3 course is currently running, with students taught as individuals or as pairs during the pandemic.

This means you can start as soon as your application has been accepted.

Larger groups with set timetables will resume, hopefully at some stage in 2021, once I am confident that larger groups can be catered for safely.

Events

Liz and her team work hard to provide high quality sports massage treatments at various events throughout the year. The aim is to enhance performance and limit injury by delivering pre event and post event massage to competitors.

Generally there is no cost to event organisers, the individual athletes are charged if they require a treatment.
